Are Canadians more Cautious and Conservative than Americans?

I've been thinking about this question for awhile.  In some things, it seems we Canadians embrace things more quickly than our American cousins. I'm thinking mainly of medicare and the importance of public education.

On the other hand, a lot of really great ideas seem to come out of the states, especially California.  I'm thinking of EFT, Brain Gym, the Sedona Method, energy efficient vehicles,no-smoking laws, and numerous other really smart ideas.

In Canada, no one goes homeless because they have spent all their savings on a family member's medical treatment.  In Canada, our public education is second to none - Americans and Europeans come here to learn how we do what we do.

We greatly admire the Americans, and some of our politicians have a sincere wish to turn Canada into the United States. They admire the American business model, they emulate the American attitude to drug users and drug abuse, even though un-biased research tells us that the war on drugs has made thing worse, not better. They think we should 'get tough on crime', throw those bad guys in jail and throw away the key.

Why do we have to wait for the Americans to accept something new and do all the research before we can entertain using EFT  for PSTD?  Why hadn't my chartered Psychologist professor never heard of energy psychology or EFT? He had some vague notion of EMDR, as a technique you might use for trauma in a Behavioral Approach.

There is a major american program in place right now using EFT to treat sleep disorders and PSTD in Irag veterans.  Do you think that such a study can or will happen in Canada? I'd love to hear your response.

Hi Mildred, Thanx for Blogging. I hope that Canada catches on. It would only serve and benefit everyone. Obviously! As far as admiring our business model, be careful with that one. And please, if you want Canada to stay green, don't invite the American businesses, bad idea, don't let those politicians sway you with those slick words. Maybe start a petition for EFT research or something like that. There are sites that you can join that raise money and do petition work, like www.care2.com Thank you so much again we appreciate every blog and article. Joe

Great Blog Mildred

What about contacting vets from Afghanistan and Iraq Wars and offering EFT for PTSD? Offer it to vets as a "research" drop in group session, not officially through Government channels. Document the sessions, and after collecting data invite an official study. You can be the path cutter for a Canadian EFT program. Smile

I believe it will be the younger Canadian practitioners who will incorporate EFT into their practices, and thus EFT will enter mainstream. The professionals who are established are very secure in their positions and don't rock the boat.

This is similar to Applied Kinesiology which took years to be introduced into the Universities and is now being offered at Waterloo. In fact, there is now a Department of Kinesiology Faculty of Applied Health Sciences University of Waterloo. This is a major step for Cautious and Conservative Canadians!
